Changing Services on Settlement

May 1, 2020 Leah Stevens
Changing-Services.jpg

Whether selling or buying, services to the property need to be changed when the ownership changes.

You DON’T need to worry about:

·       Land Registry

·       Council rates

·       Water rates

·       Strata Levies (if applicable)

These items are taken care of as part of the settlement reporting process. Land registry, council rates & water utilities are notified of the change of ownership of the property once settlement is completed. Amounts outstanding to these bodies are normally paid for at settlement (depending on the terms of the Contract for Sale). Don’t expect confirmation within a week or so though. It may not occur until the next rates notice is due to be sent.

The strata manager (where applicable) is sent a notice of change of ownership by the purchaser’s conveyancer once settlement has been completed, providing details of the change of ownership and future contact information.

Main items you DO need to attend to:

·       Electricity

·       Gas

. Telephone (if you need a landline)

·       Internet

·       Solar Panel maintenance/management (for the data)

·       Electoral Roll (if required)

·       Banks, Credit Unions

·       Insurers

·       Mail redirection

·       Change of Locks/Security Company
